Kid Fly grooves on their wide variety of influences with “You Want to Hang Out... With Me?”

Australia has a tendency of cranking out some awesome musicians: Parkway Drive, Thy Art is Murder, Northlane, Plini, Eat Your Heart Out, Thornhill, and so many others - you can now add Kid Fly to that list. The hard-hitting quintet from Gold Coast recently released their powerful new single “You Want to Hang Out... With Me?” in which they melded a variety of different genres and influences.

The song begins solemnly with an introductory chiming of piano and bells. The group wastes no time getting down to business with a slamming hook into the verse, where the listener may get caught off guard by vocalist Will Parson’s rap skill - his message was equally powerful as it was well executed. The pre chorus kicks in with drummer Caleb Brockman introducing the heaviness once again, complimented by riffs and chugs by guitarists Ian Lee and Dylan Quigg, and bassist Julian Lang-Lemkert. The chorus brought a soaring melody face-to-face with the stellar vocal hooks leading into a slightly heavier bridge. They brought it home with one more fading (instrumental) chorus.

The video illustrates Parsons’ deeply personal message perfectly, both through dark imagery, lighting, and acting from Parsons. He speaks from the soul about cutting certain people out of your life that went down a dark path - a message that resonates with many. It couldn’t have been an easy song to write for him, but the emotion comes out in the aggressiveness and passion of the song. 

Kid Fly has a little bit of everything - sick bars, heavy breakdowns, and plenty of musicianship to go around. Though the group describes themselves as a post-hardcore band, their sound blends elements of rap, hip hop, metalcore, and pop-punk. This type of genre-blending is rarely executed well, but these boys have pulled it off with style; yes Kid Fly, we want to hang out with you!
