GrungeJoe brings a heavy spin to the Jonas Brothers with the pop punk version of “Year 3000”

As many alternative music fans probably think when they hear boy bands like The Jonas Brothers, “it’s decent songwriting and all, but I wish it were heavier...” Those that were curious as to how the power pop trio might sound in a pop-punk style, look no further than GrungeJoe’s version of “Year 3000”, The cover stays true to the structure and musical themes of the original but brings a heavier grit to the bouncy pop tune.

GrungeJoe’s version of “Year 3000” stays true to the original tune in many respects, but also branches out into his own stylistic approaches that brings a level of uniqueness and individuality to the hit song. GrungeJoe did a great job of livening up the song, particularly by spicing up the vocals with a bit more grit and punk-esque delivery than the Jonas Brothers could achieve with their bubblegum pop sound. In addition to the improved vocals, GrungeJoe’s version also features significantly heavier drums as well as a gnarly easycore breakdown at the very end of the song.

Interestingly enough, “Year 3000” isn’t actually an original song of the Jonas Brothers - the song was released in 2004 by the British band Busted. The original version featured much more vulgar lyrics but virtually the same musical delivery as the Jonas Brothers, though the American pop trio changed some of the lyrical elements to better cater to their pre-teen audience. GrungeJoe picked up where the Jonas Brothers left off by improving nearly every aspect of the song and making it palatable to those that prefer the heavier side of rock and pop-punk.

GrungeJoe is a prolific artist and producer hailing from Southern California and is no stranger to reimagining the sound of well known acts - known for his Youtube-hosted instrumentals and beats in the styles of such bands as Sleeping With Sirens and Nothing, Nowhere, GrungeJoe aims to reimagine the style that was invented in the early 2000’s and reintroduce the sound that’s lacking in much of today’s alternative music - upbeat, catchy, and infectious tunes that leave the listener smiling and dancing.

“Year 3000” is a well known song that’s been covered by a number of large acts (in addition to the Jonas Brothers, the song was also covered by 5 Seconds of Summer), so it might seem like a daunting task to tackle a hit song of this caliber and improve upon it. GrungeJoe rose to the occasion and put out arguably the best version of the song - a version that retains the catchiness and happy-go-lucky attitude of the original, but strays into the heavier regions of alternative music without going overboard. The version is a testament to GrungeJoe’s skill as an artist and producer, and his ability to arrange and execute a song that hasn’t been reimagined in a way quite like this.
