Attack Attack! Make a triumphant and torrid return to the center stage with “Brachyura Bombshell”

Written by JD Walker

Very rarely do I have the honor of reviewing an absolute titan of the music industry, and yet here we are. Attack Attack! have returned with a follow-up to their hit single “All My Life” in an absolute banger of a song in “Brachyura Bombshell”. The song stays true to the very essence of what made Attack Attack! such an influential and paradigm shifting band, but is delivered in a modern package that doesn’t feel out of place with today’s bands that are following in their footsteps.

The song opens with a quick electronic intro before getting right down to business with a dissonant, chaotic breakdown. The first verse is highlighted by vocalist Chris Parketny’s vast range of unclean vocals that bridge the heavy verse with the clean and catchy chorus impeccably well. This song is firing on all cylinders including having a structure that flows and combines some of the heaviest sounds the band has explored with high quality hooks.

Attack Attack! returns with a new but equally skilled lineup, featuring original members Andrew Wetzel on drums and Andrew Whiting on guitar. The new additions to the lineup include Jay Miller on bass (who also toured with the band before their hiatus in 2013) and Parketny, who is bandmates with Wetzel in Nine Shrines. What Attack Attack! have proven with “Brachyura Bombshell” is that they haven’t missed a single step coming off of an extended hiatus. From the precipice of the song to the blistering breakdown near the end, the quartet is on top of their game and have nothing left to prove - they never stopped being titans of the industry and the forefathers of metalcore as we currently know it.

In addition to the intense return to form, the video for “Brachyura Bombshell” is equally as engaging. The video is heavily inspired by anime (at a time when it’s more popular than ever) and offers incredible visuals on top of a compelling story. The band executed the release remarkably well on all fronts, having written a great song with top notch industry-standard production and a creative video that will leave viewers wanting more.

Attack Attack! is a band that’s been sorely missed and “Brachyura Bombshell” is a great follow-up to their initial return to the scene. Attack Attack! is a band that we’ve all come to know and love, but they clearly aren't remaining complacent with their catalogue of bangers. Attack Attack! They back again, baby.
