GKE Premiere: Sakura - “All of This, And I’m Not Even the Main Character”
Written by Jesse James Smith
Australia has a new player in its Metalcore scene, and they’re coming in guns out! Now, if you’ve been reading GKE’s reviews for any amount of time, you’d know I have a thing with Australian bands, they are just always so good! It must be something in the water, because this band lives up to the same sentiment. Sakura is a brand new project who released their first song titled ‘All Of This, And I’m Not Even The Main Character’ which is the most 2010 song name ever. We caught wind of the release and wanted to say a few things about it!
The song kicks in with a massive amount of intensity and emotion! The style is heavily influenced by the early 2010’s metalcore and the christian metalcore scene. The music is multi-layered with a lot of ethereal elements sprinkled lightly in the background while the heaviness is punching you in the face. Even in the chorus, the power and beauty dynamic is still strong. The guitars sit forward in the mix so they are very prevalent which gives the song a more raw and aggressive feel. But the aggressive was saved for the end of the song, where after a small interlude, they released an intense breakdown but instead of going slow, it was punchy and filled with fast picking and fast double bass. The vocals are the part that really shine in this section, as he shows off his range from low to high.
The band is also very influenced by the Japanese metalcore scene that had been also popping off in the last 10 years, hence the name Sakura. Already the band is setting itself apart from their influences while still having them. I’m excited to be on the ground floor for this talented band. As they have already said they’ll be releasing and EP, im stoked to see what they have in store!
