SONG REVIEW: If You Know You Know - "Moment"

The future of the stadium rock genre just released their debut single “Moment” and it is flawless..... IYKYK

by Jesse Smith

Rock music does not sound like it used to, Does it? Bands like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace feel like an anomaly sometimes. Still to this day headlining all of the major rock and metal festivals in the USA but yet the genre itself and that sound hasn’t really had any exciting new talent, until If You Know You Know. Coming seemingly out of nowhere, IYKYK is a rock band based out of New York and their new single “Moment” is their first single and is already gaining a huge amount of buzz. Accompanied with an amazingly produced music video, let’s dive into this rock revival.

As the song starts off slow, the vocals set the tone with being the perfect stadium rock voice, similar to Breaking Benjamin, where it is just a perfect mid range vocal that delivers a lot of power and emotion, the kind of singing that is from the gut and the pit of your soul. As the band transitions to the chorus, the song picks up just enough to keep in line still making the melody the impactful part. But this band is anything but slow and steady. After a seamless transition out of the chorus, suddenly your eardrums are blasted with the sounds of the perfect blend of heavy and steady. With scene metal music coming up into mainstream rock music, we have seen bands do the straight rock music thing but something still feels like a scene band. “Moment” however, has precisely and perfectly come at you with harsh and raw screaming vocals yet still remaining in that rock sound, not overdoing the heaviness and instead delivering raw emotion that was too much just to be sung. The visual video at this point is also reflecting the vibe of the song part by part. Aside from all of this, the most exciting and well executed section of the song is what I would call “the stadium firework breakdown” which literally is just an string of hard hitting open notes hit one by one and all I can think of is when this would hit, fireworks would shoot up from the stage at these exact times.

I thought I have seen the rock revival bands before, but no one even comes close to this. If You Know You Know has nailed this style on their first shot. Coming out as a brand new band with quality like “Moment” isn’t seen often and is usually accredited to members being in other established bands. Not a lot of people may know If You Know You Know now, but if they keep putting out songs like this, I see the brightest future for them. This genre has been dead in the water when it comes to new bands taking the torch. It is about time for someone to take charge. I won’t even say keep an eye on them, because I’m sure eventually you will be forced to notice them being on every major festival in the next coming years.
