SONG REVIEW: End In Sight - "Black Smoke"

“The perfect mix between Lil Peep and Johnnie Guilbert”

by Jesse Smith

Emo music has taken some major turns in look and in sound in the past 5 years. To be honest, I think it is what was needed to really put a spotlight back on the scene, and with that came a whole new kind of genre blending and the rise of solo projects. End In Sight from Manchester is the perfect blend of new and old school emo. Following the release of their debut EP in 2021, the two piece has been creating a lot of attention from BBC to Alt Press and everyone in between! Rightfully so, the band’s image plus the genre blending sound is a perfect mix to grab any listeners eyes and ears. End In Sight simply doesn’t just blend in, they 100% stand out!

Black Smoke is the band’s first single release in 2022 following their EP “Teeth” which came out last year. Setting the emotional vibe with a beautiful clean guitar loop that plays as the base melody for the song really sets up for the trap beat that catches you off guard if you are hearing them for the first time. Quickly reeling you in, the vocals by EIS are simple yet tasteful and is exactly what the song needs. You guys, this song is the perfect song to just roll the windows down on the highway when you’re having a rough day. It’s a vibe! Reminding you slightly that this is a band not just an solo act, the guitarist throws some beautiful leads ever so slightly in the background in and coming out of the chorus that really subtly ties the song together like a bow. If you are a lil peep fan but can’t stand his vocals and need something more towards what traditional emo is, End In Sight does it like no one else.

All over all, There is no end in sight for these guys (see what I did there). Black Smoke is proof they can deliver A grade quality hits even after their first release. To me, a band really shines directly after their debut and End In Sight really kept the ball rolling and even picked up some speed! The melody in this song is everything, the chorus is catchy and very emotionally driven so much that you can feel it when you sing it. The whole group is super talented and deserves to be on your playlist for those sunsetting drives that make you think about everything that’s happened to you. I can’t wait for more!
