When Forever Finds Me Releases a Heavy Poetic Jam with God of Nothing

by Jesse James Smith

When Forever Finds Me has been an up and coming force in the midwest metalcore scene. Calling Kansas City home, the band arose in the scene in 2020 under the name “Aster” and has rebranded as of early this year. Piggy backing off the ground work they made in their previous local band, WFFM has been on a warpath this year playing all around their state and surrounding areas. Opening up for bands like Young Medicine, Poet, & now having a headlining album release show coming up, they have been creating some buzz, and the buzz just got bigger with their new single ‘God Of Nothing’

This is the first release the band has put out as WFFM, so this was the first look into this new direction. Leading with a song called ‘God Of Nothing’ you know this has to be heavy, so this is for the lovers of the heavier side of Metalcore. Think, Currents, Wage War, and Miss May I. The track leads with an ominous intro followed by a kick ass guitar riff, but it was a textbook metalcore hype moment when the vocals kicked in. You can feel the rage from the song seep into your brain through your ears. The chorus is where it can make or break a song in my opinion, so a minute in when the chorus hits I was skeptical, but I was pleasantly surprised. The singing wasn’t that super high typical metalcore singing, this was lower and had emotion behind it. I tried to put my finger on who it reminded me of and I’m coming to the consensus it’s Miss May I mixed with Being As An Ocean. The only critique I have is that I wish the ending breakdown was  slower and heavier. They had this crazy pause that just built up  so much anxiety of what was coming next that I think they could have really exaggerated how brutal they are. It was Suicide Silence who said “The breakdown is not about showing how good you are, but how brutal you can be” and I feel that in my soul.

Overall I think this song was a homerun! For their first release as this new brand, I believe it was a solid step into the future. They have the heaviness and the talent, and they can only dial it in from here which is super exciting! Getting in on the ground floor of a band’s development is super cool to see and be a part of. I encourage everyone to go check this band out and to find some local bands who are killing it in your local areas because you’ll be shocked at what you find when you go looking
