Feel Good Prog Rock Song from SIFYN

Written by Jesse James Smith

About a month or so ago, Prog Metal legends Veil Of Maya revealed to the world they were going on a Hiatus. Since then, I’m sure some of you will be wondering where the waves of inspiration will take the members. Today I can put your mind to ease about the frontman Lukas Magyar as we’re covering his side project SIFYN. SIFYN is a metal project based in Minneapolis and is the brainchild of Lukas and producer Isaiah Leavitt starting in 2022. Did you know that Lukas had another project? Neither did I, but now we do so you’re welcome. The band released their debut album ‘Marionette’ in 2022 and hasn’t released since, until today. Lukas and the boys are back with a beautiful new song titled ‘The Best Things’

VOM was one of the heavier bands in the prog metal scene having some of the higher tempo songs with really memorable breakdown patterns and crazy guitar sounds. SIFYN to me is the softer side of that. While still being in the prog realm, this is more aligned with Periphery. SIFYN is more poetic and the flow is ephemeral and to be honest, I like Lukas better in this than in VOM (there, I said it). The song starts out with a beautiful piano intro that already sets the tone of lighter but musical. As the band kicks in, it does happen very suddenly which is a vibe change, but it doesn’t change that much. The vocals are cut through the mix and really stand alone in this song. The melody seems to be in the forefront while the band is really just supporting it. The musical ability of the band is amazing and they really know how to fill out the instrumentals on the back end.

There isn’t a breakdown or a really heavy part which is a nice change up. If I had to be honest, this is the kind of song you smoke weed too on that perfect day to really make the vibe better. Like I said before, this was a fresh look into Lukas outside of VOM but Lukas has such a distinct voice that all of their fans will love this. It’s the other side of the prog coin. This song also has a music video that is simple and elegant that I would recommend. Overall, I’m excited to see the future of this band and how far they want to go, either way just release more.
