SONG REVIEW: Unhealthy While Unhinged - "Trump Card"

“New Cleveland Nu Metal Act, Unhealthy While Unhinge Doesn’t Hold Anything Back In Debut Single”

by Jesse Smith

As much as we like to rip into the state of Ohio as a whole, they’ve been a breeding ground for incredible metal bands and that is undeniable. Attack Attack, Like Moths To Flames, The Devil Wears Prada, the list goes on and on but now they have one more to add to the list. Unhealthy While Unhinged (aka UwU, we see what you did there) is the newest Nu Metal outfit from Cleveland that has made quite the noise with their debut single “Trump Card”. Making a statement not only with the nature of the song, but also sounding seasoned and heavy as hell!

Coming out of the gate with a politically charged song is definitely a bold move, but one thing is for sure it grabbed attention. But while your curiosity peaked at the political side, the song itself will definitely make you stay. This song has everything that makes a good Nu Metal track in 2023. Trap Beats, thick downtuned guitars, and a sick vocal flow. The song starts with the spooky trap beat as it builds up to the kick in. The soundbite right before the drop is something I noticed and pieced together later on when I dove into their social media and branding, but back to the song. The production on this song is top notch which makes the heavy parts heavier and the trap parts pop and not sound out of place.

This band is definitely over the top and is not afraid to push the boundaries. Their lyrics show which stance they are taking which could shock some people on how they choose to show it. Lyrics like “Tell me what you’ve got running  through that crooked skull, I’d like to think it’s suicide but I guess I’ll never know” is very straight forward and emotion filled. Even on their social media they’ve shown some of their responses to some of the hate or “Trolls” they’ve gotten since coming out and they take it in stride and with a sense of humor, Almost like the band Brojob.

I’m very curious on where this band is going to go from here, do they lean into politics and become a band like Rage Against The Machine and Stray From The Path, or are they going to go in a different direction. One thing is for sure, I very much enjoyed the song and with that kind of writing and production the band could get pretty far. For this being their first release, I truly didn’t believe it at first. The future for this band could be super bright, and they for sure have eyes on them now not only locally but around the scene. This song will be going on my gym playlist without a doubt.
