SONG REVIEW: Lethal Dread - False Idols

Lethal Dread brings the perfect balance of Deathcore and Thrash Metal

By Jesse Smith

If you’re a fan of fast and heavy metal music, this next one's for you so listen up. Hailing from Roanoke VA, Lethal Dread is a fresh band on the scene that mixes the styles of Thrash and Groove with a sprinkle of Deathcore. With the speed of Thrash and the heaviness of Deathcore, Lethal Dread has hit the ground running in their dark debut single “False Idols''.

Opening the song with a sound clip always captures my attention, especially when it’s one as good as this. What seems to be an evangelical preacher talking on a program but it’s distorted which gives an evil vibe. The initial guitar riff seamlessly fades in from the clip and the track is underway. Starting with a thrashy style riff that is riddled with harmonics and squeals that would make dimebag proud, as the vocals kick in it was not what I was expecting at first. The low growls and slowed drum beat gave the heavy old school deathcore vibe. The chorus however, was a nice change of pace. Catchy in its own regards but definitely stood out from the rest of the song and was memorable.

Lethal Dread is the perfect band for the metalheads that also have some ties into core music. They have the heavy rhythmic chugging patterns that you would expect in deathcore but also has the oldschool exodus riffs that create something pretty out of the box. If there was any argument about core music being true metal or not, Lethal Dread is the perfect band to prove that the answer is absolutely.
