“Not all Nu Metal Heroes Wear Capes… Some Wear Ski Masks”

Written by Jesse James Smith

People can talk all the sh*t they want, but Nu Metal is one of the best genres in Metal music and I will happily die on this hill. To this day, bands like Korn, Slipknot, & Limp Bizkit continue to dominate arenas across the world and it’s only getting bigger. I would say within the last 5-7 years, we’ve seen a heavy resurgence of nu metal creeping its way into the scene. One of these fresh faces that have been making waves is North Carolina’s Heathen Sun. We’ve talked about these guys before, but for only starting in 2023 these guys have made a MASSIVE impact around the country and continues to prove that they’re a force to be reckoned with! The band is gearing up for an album release in November titled “Murda Beach” and they just dropped a single from that release called ‘Get A Grip’.

This song in particular to me is the best of both Korn & Limp Bizkit. The intro starts with this cool synth sound and melody that kind of gives clown vibes. While not leaning into the juggalo sound and full image, you can see that communities influence within Heathen Sun, but they do it in a way that is easily palatable for everyone. As the song kicks in, the flow of the vocals absolutely rip! It’s the right amount of aggression and flow that fits beautifully in nu metal. The music is upbeat and straight forward, full of energy and excitement all the way through. You can feel it while listening that this is a song that will destroy live and it makes you want to see what it’s like in a live setting!

Heathen Sun has been on a warpath since they’ve dropped into this scene and like I said before, they have been TEARING IT UP!! If there is any band that you should put your money on, it’s them. I see huge things for this band and the music is only getting better and better. ‘Murda Beach’ drops the 11th and after this song, I don’t know if I can wait that long!
