Alive Alone Are The Definition of Punk As Hell
Written by Jesse James Smith
Alive Alone is an upcoming Post Hardcore trio from Chicago that brings back the raw energy and excitement back into the genre! These guys have been making quite a splash in their scene and have been around for awhile, so this new release has to be big! Which means calling in some big names to join in on the jams, and you can’t get much bigger than Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens. This being their 2nd single release for their upcoming album after the song ‘Joyfall’ back in November, and I got to tell you, they really stepped it up!
Bridging the gap between post hardcore, emo, and punk Alive Alone has a special sound especially in Worm Day. The tempo of the song right out of the gate was high and full of energy. The fast drumroll intro was demanding of attention and got you intrigued from the start. This song has more of a punk vibe, with the 3 chord melody with the fast drums, it fits the vibe with the quality of recording. The vocals are super high and are in the foreground of the mix which was really interesting, it created a very atmospheric vibe while still being punk. The song comes in under 3 minutes so from start to end there are no breaks, all fast paced emotionally charged music! Kellin obviously adds that 2010 post hardcore vibe but it fits right in with the music.
These guys are a mix of the punk parts of My Chem and the scene vibes of Sleeping With Sirens. I’ve been watching some live videos of them and they really put it all out there! They are a fun band to watch and a fun band to listen to. Chicago has some insane up and coming acts to look for moving into 2025, and Alive Alone is one of them. In March they have a West Coast headliner! This is huge for any band so if they’re coming near you, go check it out!
