SONG REVIEW: Sister Sleep - "Give Up The Ghost"

Sister Sleep brings the flair for the dramatic and bleed seven shades of sass with “Give Up The Ghost”

by Brandon Maynard

I have always loved bands with spooky vibes. The eerie yet beautiful music combined with the creative presence the bands bring on stage, they have always just pulled on my heart strings. And that is exactly what Sister Sleep brings. Sister Sleep has recently released a new single called, Give Up The Ghost that gives us that spooky rock n roll vibe we all love.

As soon as you press play on Sister Sleep’s new single, Give Up The Ghost, you’re instantly met with big drums and catchy guitars. The intro is very upbeat and gets your head bopping instantly. I really love the tone sister sleep used on their guitars. I think it was a perfect choice. As the song goes on you’re met with the first verse. When the verse kicks in it slows down a lot and you’re greeted with the vocals. The vocals are honestly great, very elegant sounding and compliment the guitars playing in the back. As it goes on the verse starts picking up with the drums leading us to their chorus. I’ve said this numerous times before and I’ll say it again. I think big intros and big chorus are the most important part of the song; it's what brings people in and keeps them coming. Sister Sleep already accomplished a great intro so I was excited to see how their chorus went. When the chorus hit I was very delighted it sounded huge and was so jumpy. I honestly could see myself in my car singing this chorus as loud as I could. As sister sleeps new single give up the ghost goes on your met with more great verses and that big chorus. But to my surprise I was met with This type of breakdown that was so bass heavy and forward that completely blew me away. As someone who plays bass in a band I appreciated that. It’s about time we get some spotlight!

Sister Sleep is an up and coming post-hardcore band that has a love for horror, a flair for the dramatic and bleed seven shades of sass. The Atlanta quartet (Lead vocalist: Barry Shelton, Keyboardist/vocalist: Kit Savvy, Bassist: Chase Cowan and Guitarist: James Holloway) breathes new life into a sound that bridges the gap between mid 2000’s emo anthems, modern alternative and everything in between, bringing a combination of passionate vocals, emotion tinged lyrics, infectious melodies, haunting keys, groovy bass lines and catchy guitar riffs.

To summarize everything, Sister Sleep's new single, Give Up The Ghost is a complete go out and listen to it now type of song. I was truly impressed by this single and 100% recommend everyone to add give up the ghost to your daily playlist! This song has me anxiously waiting to see what they are going to be releasing next.
