SINGLE REVIEW - Together In Tragedy - "Drawing Dead"
Together in Tragedy brings the absolute filth with “Drawing Dead”
Written by JD Walker
Do you remember the last time you put on a song that immediately gave you a stank face? The next time you have that moment, it’ll be to Together in Tragedy’s new single “Drawing Dead”. The quartet from Sydney, Australia pulls no punches in their slamming single and chaotic video. Seriously, there’s something in the Australian water that’s turning everyone into great musicians.
The song begins with chaotic harmonics delivered by guitarist Michael Webb and a lifeless stare from vocalist Alex Woollams. As the song kicks in, it’s clear that this band has widespread influences ranging from hardcore, deathcore, djent, and metalcore. The song is kept grounded by a tight groove between drummer Aaron Dalton and David Rea. Leading into the chorus is a flurry of palm mutes, open chugs, and harmonic notes that are so well chosen that the listener almost forgets how chaotic the song truly is.
The video fits the vibe of the song perfectly with the band performing in a warehouse-type setting that looks as dirty as the song sounds. The videography was top notch and the effects added in post production brought the video to the next level. Overall, the video looks industry standard and is extremely well executed for a band that (for now) has a limited following.
“Drawing Dead” is a banger, simply put. The band’s dissonant note choice and crushing low end leave the listener in a mood to punch a mountain and snap a tree in half. Their sound draws comparisons to Alpha Wolf, Emmure, and Diamond Construct, and they’d fit in impeccably well with that bill. It won’t be too long before Together in Tragedy is ripping apart venues across Australia and the entire globe.
