Outatime! Brings light to an important issue with Husky Fight!
Written by JD Walker
“According to the US Department of Justice, an average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, the number totaling more than 12 million people every year” - these were the closing messages of Outatime!’s brand new single, “Husky Fight!”, bringing to light a perilous issue that’s affected people all across the globe.
Outatime! is a 5-piece Florida pop-punk group composed of vocalist Michael Forbes, guitarists Justin Robertson and James Marlowe, drummer Ryan Pyle, and bassist Nikk Serrano. They sport a classic pop-punk sound, embodying the hallmarks of the genre that many have fallen in love with - fast tempos, soaring vocals, and catchy melodies. Many of their stylistic approaches are reminiscent of classic acts such as Blink-182 and Alkaline Trio, while still giving a nod to the modern approach to pop-punk.
The video carries a much more serious undertones juxtapositioned to the song, bringing a found-footage vibe to the cinematography. The story follows a young woman who was previously reported missing running from a various number of aggressors, whether it be a masked figure or a stranger with a shotgun. The band articulated their message very well, pointing out that so many people around the world are victim to domestic violence, sexual assault, and predatory actions. The aggressors in the video seemingly represented the different elements of abuse that many have had to endure in reality.
Outatime! Did a wonderful job discussing a serious issue in a healthy manner - domestic violence and sexual assault are unfortuantely commonplace for many people in our nation and across the world, and the only way to move forward is to address and recognize the warning signs. The band had an interesting foil between the song and the contents of the video which only added to the gravity of the message. Husky Fight! is an enjoyable tune on the surface with a powerful message hidden underneath.
