Everbloom address current events in their grooving new single “Talking Through Teeth”

Easycore is an interesting genre for a number of reasons - from an instrumental point of view, the genre combines a number of different sounds to be heavy, yet happy. Lyrically, the genre is so free for interpretation that the band can convey any message they’d like. Everbloom chose to address the ever tense socio-political climate of America while still retaining those happy, heavy grooves with their new single, “Talking Through Teeth.”

The song kicks off right away with a triumphant “HEY” as the introductory guitars chime with major chords before kicking into a heavy (almost djenty) verse. The group transitions beautifully from the chuggy syncopated patterns to a more open, pop-punk sounding chorus. Easycore is a genre known for combining heavy rhythms with soaring melodies, borrowing sounds from a number of different subgenres including pop-punk, metalcore, djent (yes, djent is a subgenre), and hardcore.

Everbloom paints with the different colors of these subgenres with a fine brush, blending the different sounds into one collective tune that has something for everyone. The Nebraska quartet consisting of Gage Hanson, Brett Parrella, Dylan Jensen, and Grant Muilenburg, are no strangers to the genre. Having been active since August of 2018, the group describe themselves as nostalgic pop-punk with a blend of easycore.

The video for “Talking Through Teeth” counts as a performance video (mainly focusing on the band playing their instruments in different city scapes), but also calls on images of the civil unrest that has gripped the country over the past year. The lyrical content remains ever hopeful, addressing the problem of inequality and vowing to never back down until the problem is solved. The video beautifully illustrates the sentiment behind much of the unrest over the summer and the rebellious anger felt by so many around the country.

“Talking Through Teeth” is a banger of a song that offers social commentary on one of the most important subjects in current events for the country, a subject that’s hard to talk about for some but is alleviated by the reassuring message that Everbloom has to offer. The quartet wear their heart on their sleeves and play with an undeniable passion that comes through in the song, leaving the world with a ripping tune that’s bound to stay on repeat.
