EP REVIEW: Miniluv - "Every Motion Ends"

“Miniluv shows what Heavy Poetry really can be in their new EP”

by Jesse Smith

Coming out of the Mile High city is one of the most unique bands called Miniluv. A fairly new band that popped onto the scene in 2018 is now set to release their new EP, “Every Motion Ends”. Miniluv is a blend between math rock and melodic hardcore topped with incredible lyrics. I listened to the EP front to back and I knew immediately that I was interested and by the end I was a fan.

Artwork for “Every Motion Ends”

“Every Motion Ends” is a well crafted and beautifully spoken piece of art. Starting off with the song “In Each Passing Moment” you get your first taste of the intricate song structure. The transitions within this song piqued my interest. Being a musician myself, I realized how difficult these time signatures were that I had to replay the song so I can fully be prepared to embrace this band. They jump back and forth between harsh screams to soft singing seamlessly. As you move down this 4 track EP, they start to pick up speed and still shows incredible ability. “Come The Death Of A Moment” has a little more grit while still feeling emotionally connected. The build up in the middle of the song shows their heavier side and is really an ear catch. Having some of the more mathy bands slow it down and just focus on feel is sometimes my favorite part, and this was no exception. Ending the EP hot with “.. And We Move Forward” sends you off on the lighter note. Minimal screams, not really heavy but still somehow feels like the same band.

Miniluv is heavy poetry. Reading the lyrics along with songs I felt so connected to the band. Between all of the time changes and intricate playing lies a beautiful poet who is not afraid to express themselves. A mix between Dance Gavin Dance and Counterparts, those bands sound so opposite, but that's what makes this so unique. If you’re looking for something that scratches the emo itch in your heart while also keeping your attention then you have found the perfect band and I suggest you give this EP a try front to back.
