SONG REVIEW: Burden Of The Sky - "The Flood"
by Jesse Smith
Bands who push the boundaries and do something that normally isn’t done in any fashion, I love it. Burden Of The Sky’s newest single has not only 1 but 2 features, one of them being the drummer of Sevendust Morgan Rose, the other being Blake Bedsaul of SAUL. Having features that are other musicians other than vocalist I think really is a power move and adding another featured vocalist really was the cherry on top. Burden of the Sky is an alt metal band from Illinois that formed back in 2012 and since then has been rocking around the country with some of the top rock acts in the world. Their newest single “The Flood” has hit the nail on the head of what rock music now should sound like.
“The Flood” starts out like most octane metal and rock songs with the electronic intro but quickly takes a turn. The music kicks in and it’s a little heavier and deeper than you expect but what you really don’t expect is for it to be cut and the vocalist to take it into another dimension. Taking the energy from the bottom, the chorus comes in like a tidal wave of power and just knocks into you as you listen. Cutting straight to the point with no funny business, the chorus is just raw power in all its glory. Heavy open and drawn out distorted guitars with the crushing back beat, you can tell it was written for the stadiums and big stages. A Little further in the song, while not completely cutting the energy, the band pulls back and does something jot enough bands do… let the bassist shine. Let’s face it, we are all suckers for a beefy bass tone. Here is where the song gets fun, as we near the ending, Burden of the Sky gives the hardcore dancers alittle something with a crushing breakdown. So far the song has had the alt rock sound that you hear on the radio but as soon as this kicks in, it really takes the song to new heights and gives the people something different.
Burden of the Sky has been around for 10 years and consistently puts out bangers and is just topping themselves with every release. This September the band heads out on a massive run headlined by Sevendust. It would be really sick to see Morgan on the drums for this song and honestly it’ll be the perfect tour to put them on. As for The Flood, the band really out did themselves and came out swinging. Should be a sick song to see live.
