GKE EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: In Broad Daylight - Blood From The Stone
Written by Jesse James Smith
The sunshine state hasn’t only been hot in temperature, but a hot spot for new music! In Broad Daylight is a quartet from Cape Canaveral that resembles the best of the “swancore” bands but with a heavier side! The band started its journey in 2017 but has only released a single EP titled ‘Matterhorn’ in 2021. It’s been over 3 years since then, and while the band has continued to be active within their local scene, the time has come for something new! They gear up for their 7” Single titled ‘Weapons of Self Destruction’ which features this excitingly energetic track ‘Blood From The Stone’.
This track and collection marks the start of a new chapter for the group, something heavier and harder. Blood From The Stone showcases each individual memeber’s talent and highlights the bands new strengths of bringing emotion and aggression into the music. The opening screams from vocalist Daniel “Dank” Kopp were screeching and raw making it stand out and different. It was an attention grabber and the band needed to keep it. While the verse dipped in energy, it was a setup for the chorus that was catchy and upbeat. Towards the end the band had a heavier section where they let loose really for the first time. While it’s not a traditional ‘blegh’ sort of breakdown, it was still enough to get your head bobbing.
The track is accompanied with a music video that is mostly a performance video with slight cuts and subtle storytelling. You get to rock out with the band while staying intrigued by the vague artsy shots. The one thing I thought was super sick was the sentences that would periodically pop up, almost subliminal. I’ve seen it before and I think it’s another powerful way to mix it up in your visuals and keep the attention of your audience. Overall, this was a hell of a way to reintroduce your music to the world! It’s been a long time coming and In Broad Daylight definitely delivered. We here at GKE are stoked to see them release new music and will be keeping an eye out for the next thing they do.
