Band Interview: "Dark Divine"

Written / Interview by Jesse Smith

One of the best new talents I’ve been keeping a radar on is the band Dark Divine from Orlando, FL. Being a lover of the goth/horror rock genre I quickly gravitated towards them and was hooked with everything from the makeup aesthetic to the first “Blegh” I heard. Apparently I’m not the only ones with eyes on them, with only 3 released from their up-coming release via the cool people at InVogue Records the band has had hundreds of thousands of streams on all of the platforms. As they set out on their first tour with returning scene icons Famous Last Words, I was happy to ask them a few questions!

Q: You’re a fairly fresh face on the scene, how and when did the band start?

A: The band officially started in April of 2021 when Jay saw a clip of Triston playing drums and agreed to start a project.

Q: Were you expecting such a great response on your first single “Halloweentown” when you first released it?

A: We honestly didn’t know what to expect.  Going the spooky route as a debut release was more of us taking a leap of faith and trying to incorporate our nonmusical influences into our sound.  The response was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Q: What/who were your influences while writing your upcoming EP?

A: We took great influence from some of the horror movies that we love.  We also took influence from bands who share similar spooky imagery such as Motionless in White and Ice Nine Kills.

Q: The band’s first tour is coming up supporting Famous Last Words, are you excited? What are some of the things you are most looking forward to?

A: As a band just starting out, our first show was always something we had been wanting to hold off on until the right moment came about.  We didn’t want to just play the first show that was offered to us.  As soon as we got the offer for our debut show to be part of a tour with Famous Last Words, we knew that it was the right moment to finally put our show on a stage.  We are definitely most looking forward to finally seeing the faces of our online fanbase who have wanted to see us live.

Q: You are the fresh face of InVogue Records, how has it been working with them?

A: Working with InVogue has been a game changer in giving us the opportunity to produce, not only quality musical content, but quality visual content to pair with the songs. Invogue has also opened so many doors for us in terms of performing live.  We are excited to see where this partnership takes us in the future.

Q: Now for some fun questions, As a spooky horror goth band, what makeup brand(s) do you use?

A: We typically use Mehron products but are always open to experimenting with different brands and artists to change things up as needed.

Q: What genre of horror movie is your favorite? What is your favorite horror movie?

A: We are all pretty big fans of slashers and psychological thrillers.  But there are always gonna be the textbook horror classics that transcend our appreciation for specific genres.

Q: If you could make your dream tour lineup, Dark Divine as the openers, who else would be on it? (As many slots as you want)

A: Slipknot, Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills, Bad Omens, Dark Divine

Q: Thank you guys so much for your time! Do you have anything you want to plug?

A: We have merch that can be found on our website www.dark-divine.com.  Our single “Circles” will be released on June 24th as well as a music video.  We will also be on tour starting with Famous Last Words on August 19th in our hometown of Orlando.  Tickets can be found at here

Dark Divine’s most popular song “HalloweenTown” was the first to be released racking up over 180k streams on Spotify alone as well as 46k views on their Music Video. With one of the strongest first impressions, the track has an infectious hook that sounds MASSIVE. For anyone who misses the old Motionless In White sound, Dark Divine has picked up the torch and undoubtedly will take off. Their latest single “Your Ghost” follows the same path but yet focuses more on melody rather than being as hard as possible, already giving their audience a wide range of what the band is capable of. As the horror metal genre seems to come to the limelight, Dark Divine will soon be a staple fresh face that takes it to new heights.
