SONG REVIEW: Glasswaves - "Mistakes"

“Bad Omens and Sleep Token should watch out, Glasswaves are challenging them for horniest music in Metalcore”

by Jesse Smith

Tumblr may be dead, but horny music is not. Recently it’s been all anyone can say about Sleep Token and Bad Omens, that it is baby-makin’ music and frankly, how can you not agree? But, While those guys are leading this race, a new face is creeping up and that is the band Glasswaves. Forming very recently, this is the newest addition to Tough Luck Music’s roster. The band released its first single titled Dead Dreams a couple months ago and it gave the first taste of what this band could be musically. Today, we’re looking into the follow up single “Mistakes'' that solidifies exactly the direction this band is going…. And we’re here for it!

Glasswaves uses ambient textures and electronic music to create a vibe. Vocalist Noah Rich’s vocal delivery is soft and fits perfectly within what the song calls for. As the song picks up and starts to incorporate drums and guitars, Noah puts a little grit in his voice and the vibe kind of changes. Instead of being super soft and atmospheric, the song shifts into something more emotional and heavier. It stands out so much because Noah is not a high singer, but that’s perfect and gives this band character and an identity. Towards the end of the track the band kicks in into overdrive as the incorporate heavier guitars and screams which was super impressive. This song is catchy and an easy listen. The production is top notch and the band for this being their second release is mindblowing.

Between the horny vibes and the beautifully crafted song writing, this band has its finger directly on the pulse. Image wise, the black paint on their arms and neck give them some edge reminiscent of the goth bands in the scene, but also gives them uniformity. That mixed with the modern clean cut image sets them apart from all the other goth bands and instead sets them apart and ties directly in with their sound. Glasswaves could be the next hot band, and to get close to 50k streams on your first ever release says A LOT. “Mistakes”is a very well written, well executed, and all around great song. This band IS going places, and I can’t see what is in store next.
