Famous Last Words is back with a mysterious concept with their EP, The Negative!

By Brandon Maynard

Just when we thought 2021 was about to end on a low note, Famous Last Words goes and drops their brand new EP entitled "The Negative". With it being 2 years since the bands prior release of "Arizona" they have returned bigger and better than ever. "The Negative" is a Very impressive 3 track EP taking the listener on a journey with straight in your face aggressive opening to a spoken word really detailing what the concept of "The Negative" is truly about.

Artwork for The Negative

The opening track, “In The Blink Of An Eye” spares no time cutting to the chase. From the very first second you are met with hardcore vocal delivery, and pure metalcore bliss from the instrumental section. As the song goes on your hit with those perfect cleans that Famous Last Words have always been known for. The very first lines of the song:

“I’ve always known I am the guardian/of moments of truth/each frame undeniable truth”.

As mentioned before The Negative is a concept EP and with those first lines you already get an idea of where this is going. The song goes on and we’re greeted with a nasty breakdown accompanied by blast beats which I guarantee will make you hit replay.

"The Negative" is a concept EP describing a photographer who sees “moments of truths” captured by his camera. The band goes in more detail,“The Negative" is about a photographer who feels a strong sense of purpose. He feels his purpose is to capture what he calls “moments of truth” which are completely unfiltered, unedited, natural moments. He wants to capture these moments and preserve them so people can remember what “real life” looks like among the plethora of inauthenticity. When developing one day he sees a vision of a parallel universe colliding with our universe in one of his photo negatives. He doesn’t know when or what is going to happen exactly once it collides, but he knows it’s going to be soon and he begins to wildly speculate on all of the horrifying possibilities. He carries this knowledge on his own out of fear of the world thinking he has gone mad. Has he gone mad? Is the universe doomed, or is this all in his head?”

To summarize everything up Famous Last Words new EP release, "The Negative" is the type of EP that you can hit replay a million times and never get tired of it! If you enjoyed their earlier work with their albums such as Council of The Dead or Two-Faced Charade, you’ll fall in love with this new release from them. With straight up metalcore bliss, in your face songs, and a spoken word to end this EP, I promise you "The Negative" will easily become a favorite for years to come!
