SONG REVIEW: Chad Kowal - "ALT POP"

Chad Kowal Releases One Of The Best Songs I’ve Heard In A While With “ALT POP”

Written by Jesse Smith

Do you remember the band Farewell, My Love? Well vocalist Chad Kowal has a solo project that is the best thing you’ll hear if you haven’t already. He started releasing music in 2022 as he was writing for major DJ’s but the emo kid at heart like all of us obviously was not gone. His music is a mix between pop music and emo and over here at GKE we can’t get enough of it! While making a name for himself as a solo artist, he has been making quite the noise with over 22k monthly listeners and hundreds of thousands of streams, in March 2023 he released the brand new single “Alt Pop”.

The song is incredibly fun to listen to! It starts with a very cool half distorted and half clean acapella that has hype right from the start. From the start he sets a natural bounce which sets the tone through the song. Even though there is a lot of build up, the first verse just seems to harness and control the energy. If we were on a scale of 1-10 he kept it about a 7, which kept it so interesting. I was hooked… locked in because I needed to hear it hit 10. As the chorus dropped I was instantly hooked. The mainstream pop vibes are high and it was worth the hype. In fact, it was heightened by waiting. It was way more powerful of a drop. Chad’s voice is incredible and it speaks to your little emo soul. The rest of the song is incredibly catchy and how the lyrics flow and create the vibe is astonishing. This is one of the best songs I’ve heard in awhile. It’s infectious and just crawls it’s way into your brain. The vocal medley is unforgettable.

If you were to judge by this song alone you’d understand how he could have been writing for big names because he himself should be big. This is a similar story to Blackbear and I could see Chad being the next big thing. This song should be on the radio and is way better than whatever actually is. If you need something new that is hype and fun and makes you overall feel hype, Alt Pop is the only song you need. 10/10
