“Apollo’s Army is the modern day The Offspring”

by Jesse Smith

Utah is known for a couple of things. Some good, some bad, some salty. But within the weirdest state (some would say) is a newer up and coming band that has unmatched energy and excitement! Of course I'm talking about Apollo’s Army. Popping on the scene in 2020 with their album release titled “Welcome To The Army” the band has been steady and active ever since. Seeing some traction with their 2022 single “I’m Taking Mine” racking up almost 200k streams, the band has been cooking! They are back with a new single titled “Down To Size” and this may be their best song yet!

The band takes inspiration from multiple different genres and really does an excellent job of weaving those inspirations into something new. The song starts out with a full verse of melodic bells and quick rapping. It first gave Linkin Park but you can hear this idea in modern music today like Falling In Reverse or I Prevail.  As the band kicks in, I thought they were going to take a very soulful guitar solo driven song that was going to be more anthemic, but instead they turn up the energy and crank out a sick punk/pop based song! The thick of the song has a very uplifting tone and is very rhythm driven. The song ends up reminding me of The Offspring or Rise Against. Towards the ending of the track they dip their toes in a little heavier music which was a nice way to spice it up.

Overall, this song slaps! I really enjoyed the layout of the song and how it makes you feel listening to it. I can see how the crowd would really get into this song live. Like I said, Utah is known for a couple things, and I think one day it’ll be known as the home state of Apollo’s Army.
