SONG REVIEW: The Craft - "The Bride of Frankenstein"
“New band The Craft brings Horror Rock to Colorado”
by Jesse Smith
Coming from the mile high city Denver, CO is the newest edition to the horror rock community and they’re called The Craft. This horror rock outfit is fresh on the scene, so fresh that this is their first release as a band ever! Sticking with the theme and aesthetic, this single is called “The Bride of Frankenstein”. Being the new band on the block has its perks, like coming onto the scene with no expectations and this is probably the first time really get to hear the feedback of what probably is your longest brain child. I was not expecting what I heard and was pleasantly surprised going into this first listen. Let’s jump right into it!
The Craft has many different influences and all of them you can pick out. The big one is Evanescence for me, not because this is a “Female Fronted” band so therefore they sound like another female fronted band, no, it’s that the vocalist really sounds like Amy Lee. It was almost the first thing I heard when I first heard her sing and right there I was interested. The music is something a little different and follows more theatrical and has elements of Rob Zombie and The Misfits. The creepy vibe the band has translates into their music and embodies the shock rock sound. It is a little slower in tempo which makes the chorus really pop when they turn it up and really go for it. Throughout the song, individually the band gets to show their talents and the highlight for me is the drummer. Some of the transitions and the double bass at the end was such a nice touch that really sealed the song off.
If you’re a fan of horror rock then you will instantly fall in love with The Craft. The faster parts have the same vibe as The Misfits and the slower and darker vibes really resemble Rob Zombie. It’s a healthy mix of both that never ceases to be boring! All in all, I enjoyed it! I think this is a really strong first step for the project and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
