SONG REVIEW: Khaos Theory - "The Exorcist"
“Could Khaos Theory be the next band that bridges the gap between Goth culture and Metal culture?”
by Jesse Smith
Goth culture is coming back and it is coming back HARD. So hard in fact that I think we bullied Hot Topic to bring back the dimly lit stores. More and more goth aesthetic bands across multiple genres are on the rise and absolutely killing the alternative music genres right now which is paving the way for new acts across the world to come out and push the boundaries of music. Khaos Theory is a new band from Kansas City that is one of the coolest bands I’ve heard recently! If anyone knows me personally, I am a sucker for the darker side of music and Khaos Theory absolutely fits that bill. With let than a handful of music out, they have their finger on the pulse of being something very unique and one of the bands that could bridge the gap between Goth darkwave and metal.
“The Exorcist” is their newest release that leans more into the modern active radio rock sound while still having the creepy and spooky vibe. Having the huge chrouses while getting down and dirty in the bridges gives it that modern Motionless In White vibe. The intro is heavy hitting from the start, keeping it classy with the chug patterns that sets the tone for the rest of the song. Although, the best part is after the second chorus, there is a DJ scratch effect that is over that heavy part that sounds so sick. While this song in particular has more of a Conquer Divide meets Ice Nine Kills vibe, there is also a 2nd song that was released called “The Curse” Which leans more into the eire metal vibe with faster paced tempo and nu metal vocal patterns.
Both of these releases are heavy and well written. As a new band in the scene, it usually takes some time for bands to find their footing, but Khaos Theory is ahead of the game with great song writing and overall talent. They have a direction and something unique about them that I know will be a huge hit in their local scene that will spread like a disease. The parts that stand out to me were when they leaned into the electronic mixed with the heavier sections, I would love to see what they have cooking next and I hope they stay on this path. But for now, I am excited to add another up and coming band to my playlist.
