SONG REVIEW: ĐISORIENT - "Chasing (feat. Travis William)"

“Disorient brings Alt Rock heaven to everyone with debut single”

by Jesse Smith

The scene is changing, and I think it’s changing for the better. I don’t know about all of you, but suddenly the Alternative Rock and Metalcore genre seems fresh and new! Up and coming bands are paving the way for the next generation of listeners like it was when I was first getting into the scene. But with the boom in recording technology, you can write a SMASH right off the gate, which is exactly what the new project in the scene Disorient did. Disorient is a solo project by vocalist Xavier Mejia and his new single “Chasing” gave me hope for the up and coming scene we’re creating right now.

We can’t deny that the post Covid boom had a major effect on the music scene, and bands like Bad Omens and Spiritbox are taking things to new heights and audiences. But on the other end of the spectrum, new artist who are taking the roads traveled by those bands are coming out and making their own splash! Being a new artist has it’s perks and pitfalls, but Disorient knocked it out of the park. Coming in somewhere between rock and metalcore, “Chasing” starts off hard and fast! As the song has your attention it settles into a slower verse. You know this is going to be something special when the verse is even catchy. The transition into the chorus shows some of that new school influence with the electronic break before kicking up into the chorus. Obviously the chorus is catchy and memorable but the big takeaway was the guest vocals by Travis William from the band Colorblind. They are another up and coming band that is shaping music and how it is today. The placement of Travis’ guest is so unique and it hits so hard, you immediately hear it and get excited!

Overall, for a first release, I give this a 10/10. Chasing is fun to listen to and most importantly infectious. It has been stuck in my head all day and i’m not complaining! As a solo project, I'm excited to see what this shapes into! Keep your eye out for Disorient because it certainly has the talent to go the distance.
