SONG REVIEW: Haunter - "Undead Melody"

“Haunter steps out of his comfort zone and into a whole new world with incredible new single”

by Jesse Smith

If you like to dance on the darkside then listen up, this one’s for you. We’ve talked about Haunter on GKE before on some of his earlier releases, but he’s back and heavier than ever. The new single “Undead Melody” is truly a step out of the comfort zone and into new waters for Haunter and I truly was not expecting it! Haunter emerged on the scene last year with “Somewhere Over the Rain '' and captured the goth darkwave vibe and created music for the dark souls to dance to. The following releases followed similar footsteps in creating darkwave dance music with catchy yet eerie vocals. That all was until this song that is.

The song opens up with a very Vampiric style piano which already was different from the normal energy. As the first sign of a dance beat came on, it started to set the tone for a Haunter song until it switched immediately. A full band started playing and it completely caught me off guard, but in a good way! Now, mixing underground darkwave with a heavier metal influence, Haunter has rehashed my interest. Being on the goth side, and keeping the creepy aspect with imagery and music, you could hear the Motionless In White influences while keeping a separate and unique sound. As the song moves, it weaves in and out between fully electronic and heavy instruments keeping the flow very interesting and up beat. Instead of sounding more like coub music, it was much more dynamic and structured with way more elements. This was a huge step for this project and I thought they knocked it out of the park. The song is on the longer side coming in at just shy of 5 minutes but it is an incredibly fun and immersive 5 minutes and it seems to fly by.

The song also has a music video that perfectly matches the vibe of the song and definitely adds another level to the song as well. Even in this video you see the full band performance. I truly believe this song is going to open a lot more doors and peak a lot of new interests from fans of dark electro music and on the goth metal side of the scene. The possibilities are endless and it is clear Haunter isn’t afraid to take risks and add new elements to his music. This is now a project that is capable of anything!
