Few bands in the alternative music scene have a history as long and telling as Escape the Fate, and their story is one of overcoming adversity in the name of music. It’s only fitting that they contribute to the soundtrack for a movie all about overcoming adversity due to addiction.

“Walk On” is an uplifting tune incorporating many elements of alternative rock and stadium anthems - a driving chorus filled with chants, uplifting melodies, and a message that many will be able to connect with. The video begins incorporating scenes from the independent film “Sno Babies”, a story of two young college-bound teenagers that are gripped by heroin addiction and the toll it takes on their respective families. These scenes tie in the message of the movie well with the theme of the song while cutting to shots of the band gearing up for the stage and performing.

The message of the song is truly connective - it alludes to the challenges that the protagonists face while also giving a message of hope. The lyrics acknowledge the hopelessness and dread that many young addicts have to face, using creativity as an outlet to overcome those problems, and ultimately walking on and never giving up. The song reinforces the fact that if you or someone you know is facing addiction, you are not alone.

Addiction has broken families, households and communities across the nation. Many of us know someone who is struggling with this disease or are struggling with it themselves. It’s important to take Escape The Fate’s message to heart -  “Walk on when you're going through hell, keep going”. Addiction is a disease that we will beat together, and Escape The Fate has done a wonderful job of articulating the message that there is hope and that you’re not alone in your pain and struggles. Hear the song in the context of the movie on September 29th.
