SONG REVIEW: As Tides Rise - "Yours Truly"

As Tides Rise turns up the energy and heaviness up to 12 and it doesn’t come back down in this new single, “Yours Truly”

by Jesse Smith

There is a small era of Metalcore that will live in my heart and be a part of me forever. It was that bouncy downtuned percussive like guitar riffs that followed the kick pattern to a T. The high energy aggressive verses with an even higher epic chorus that was almost a different genre. At the time, there was something so beautifully simplistic about the approach of writing these songs where there were 1 or 2 stand out, key parts that made it memorable. Seeing a brand new band that nails that sound and aesthetic brings joy to my heart. As Tides Rise’s 2nd single release ever “Yours Truly” has all of the ingredients to make a tasty metalcore smash.

Starting off the song with that bendy and bouncy intro riff always is the move when building up anticipation but As Tides Rise took it a step further by not giving you the full entree first. Oh no, instead they built it up even more with a tom kick and snare build. Moving into the song, The guitar work is what is really catching and leading the song, like in the verse, quick little accents of harmonics bring a different element and creates the atmosphere for the clean vocals to really make an impact. The chorus is straightforward and easy to get stuck in your head. My favorite and usually every metalcore kid’s favorite part, the breakdown. The whole song feels like one big build up and it did not disappoint when it drops! The stand out was the utilization of where the guitar solo was. It didn’t take away from any heaviness at all and instead really created excitement!

All over all, I really got down to this. Again, this is only the bands 2nd single and to even to hold someone’s attention for 3 minutes is a win, but in this case it deserves those 2nd and 3rd listens in a row. Perfect song to put on your daily workout playlist because the energy and heaviness is always turned up to 12 and it doesn’t come down. Truly excited to see what the band has next and are already off to a very solid start.
