SONG REVIEW: Alpine Loop - "Mood (Pop Punk Cover)"

I feel like easycore bands are always the ones most likely to put out the best covers, there I said it. If you’re a metalcore fan you may not like the pop punk covers that lean more pop and if you’re a pop punk guy, you won’t like the more metal covers. Easycore is just the sweet spot no one likes to talk about, but dammit I think we should! The latest cover I heard that got me thinking this was Alpine Loop’s cover of “Mood”. Now if you haven’t heard the actual song mood from TikTok, you live under a rock. But for the people who do know and haven’t heard this cover? Saddle up partner, we’re going to Utah! (Said no one) 

The keys to the blend of pop punk and metalcore are this: Keep up the energy, make the heavy part memorable and cool, and keep it catchy. Alpine had no problem keeping this cover catchy because they did the right choice by keeping the opening and chorus pretty much the same. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Keeping that catchy melody but just taking it up to 11 and adding distortion. Now the heavy part comes and goes but makes a statement! Alpine Loop definitely does it just as well as the metalcore bands when it comes letting the heaviness out. It was like a treat! A nice switch up that didn’t overstay its welcome. The real star of the show is the guitar solo after. You don’t see many easycore bands actually soloing, and Alpine Loop really brought it keeping it tight and really showing off their musicianship. 

Alpine Loop really nailed a solid cover track with Mood. If you’re like me and find bands first because of a cover song, it is the perfect way to gain some momentum. Some of the cover songs are harsh to listen to at best, but the Alpine Loop guys really put talent and structure above all else and delivered a killer track that will make anyone who listens curious about their original work. I did, and I wasn’t disappointed.
