SONG REVIEW: Ali Slater - "Over It (Feat. Jacky Vincent)"
“Ali might be Over It, but I’m still not over listening to this song!”
by Jesse Smith
We know her, We LOVE her, Ali Slater is back and better than ever! For those who don’t know, I did a review on Ali’s song “Without You” and I remember when I heard it thinking it was so unique and engaging that I had to keep tabs. This time she features a guitarist who I think was born 40 years too late. One of the best shredders in the scene, Jackie Vincent (ex- Falling In Reverse).
While “Without You” was on the slower side, ”Over It” is a punk pop powerhouse track that is oozing with raw emotion and femininity. This calls out to all the girls who have had a toxic man feed them bullshit in an on again off again cycle of headaches. This fast tempoed crashes into from the start and makes you start wanting to move. Ali kept something similar in that her verses are very drum heavy. Keeping them in the forefront Driving her voice and keeping the guitar slightly in the background reinforcing the vocals. This makes her stand out way more and shows off the highlight of this project, which is her. Being one of the best female voices in the scene, she has her own soothing quality about her voice and really sets her music apart from anyone else doing something similar. Jackie Vincent’s solo towards the end was the bowtie to top it all. It was exactly what this song needed sonically and was the perfect fit for this song.
Her lyric content is an empowering statement speaking to all women without being cheesy. It is genuine and it is expressed perfectly so her message is loud and clear. I wish 99% of the people in my life could communicate this efficiently. “Over It” is a statement, plain and simple and she means it. I feel it, everyone who listens to her feels it and we are all here for it! Ali Slater may be over it, but I’m not over listening to this song. It is a 100% certified smash and now i'm even more excited to see what she has in store next.
