EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Burn Absolute - "Cartharsis"
“Burn Absolute is a force to be reckoned with! New single “Cartharsis” brings old Metalcore vibes in 2023”
by Jesse Smith
Remember when Metalcore was a pretty distinct sound? Now it has so many different bands and sounds under its umbrella that in all honesty, it needs to be recognized as its own genre. There are some bands in the scene right now that have clung to the good old metalcore sound and it still to this day doesn’t miss. A perfect example is the up and coming American outfit Burn Absolute and their new single “Cartharsis”. Spread throughout the USA, This brand new group has hit the ground SPRINTING. This is a new band that has done their homework and it shows us they are ready to be in the big leagues.
Metalcore was made on fast and punchy riffs and aggression and that is exactly what they delivered. Starting out with a familiar yet foreign guitar lead that sets the tone and the melody to be. With an intro like that you could either turn it up to 11 and floor it, or take the heavy road and make it bounce and I’m so glad they chose the 2nd. Starting off heavy with the melodic lead behind it is textbook metalcore and it never misses in setting the mood for the song. As the song goes on I hear a new vocal and a familiar scream. They don’t have anyone listed as a featured on Spotify, but when I saw the video and did my research I knew my ears weren’t deceiving me. This song features some vocals from Shawn Spann of I, The Breather who is a powerhouse metalcore band who also has this similar sound. It was a perfect feature and was so subtle that it made you listen harder and become more focused. This song goes in a couple different directions and keeps you on your toes. Overall it brought me back to the 2010’s metalcore and that is the time I got into the genre heavily, so this is the style I grew up with and they nailed it.
For being such a new band they really have their stuff in order, already having tour dates on their own. Even though we are in the digital age, there is nothing like being on stage and feeling that rush. I know they are working closely with Shawn of ITB so this is definitely a band to keep in your radar, especially if you miss the time when metalcore felt metal.
